Weekend Pampering

Okay it was actually Thursday, but that's close enough to the weekend right? Thursday night I wanted to pamper myself a little. I don't do it often, but when I do I usually grab a face mask and call it a day. But after talking to Hello Korin, telling her about my dislike for my long overdone ombred locks,  she gave me courage to try boxed hair color. She reminded me that mid semester last year, I helped her spread the color through her hair and when it was all done she looked killer with a darker shade. My hair is naturally a rich brown so I assumed there wouldn't be a problem going a hue or two darker.

Before diving into the unknown I made sure to research what are some of the best in-home coloring treatments; here is one of the articles. I also made sure to find a brand that had demi-color. If the color didn't turn out the way I wanted I didn't want to be permanently stuck. I ended up choosing Clairol, based on my reading and time frame; plus helped that Hello Korin had used Clairol before so I had seen how to color fades out over time, maintaining a natural look.

So I took the plunge and gathered my supplies:

  • Clairol Natural Instincts hair color (I chose to use Nutmeg {28})
  • Shower cap
  • Hair clips
  • 20 minutes

It seriously only took a total of 20 minutes. 5 minutes to spread the color, 10 to set the shade, and 5 more to rinse, condition, rinse again, and dry. Here are a few tips I learned:

  • Have a friend help
  • Follow the directions (whatever you do!)
  • Wear an old shirt you wont mind getting dirty

I love how deep the color turned out! And I am so glad Hello Korin reminded me to document the process. So here it is in picture form.  Have a happy hump day!
